Deeply rooted in institutional know-how. Founded in 2004, Newport Capital Partners was established to serve a group of high net worth investors and a family office. 

From 2004-2008, on behalf of its clients the firm acquired and operated 7 retail and mixed-use properties with over $100 million of assets under management.

Expanding on its niche investment strategy, ownership transformed Newport Capital Partners into a vertically integrated boutique real estate investment firm in 2008.

In 2011 Newport Capital Partners expanded its team with the addition of colleagues who had previously worked together at RREEF, LaSalle Partners, and investment partners associated with predecessor affiliates. The firm has built a leadership team with an extensive background in managing institutional capital, with the perspective and expertise of an investor/operator.

Executive Team Members

Derrick McGavic is a Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer for Newport Capital Partners, and serves on the firm’s Management Committee and Fund’s Investment Committee. Derrick’s career spans more than 23 years in which he has managed seven co-mingled funds with assets in excess of $3.5 billion and executed in excess of $3.8 billion of real estate transactions.

Prior to founding Newport Capital partners, Derrick was a Managing Director with RREEF, worked with JE Roberts Companies and held senior roles with LaSalle Partners.  email:  derrick@newportcapitalptrs.com

Jana Langston is a Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, heading up Newport Capital Partners’ Asset Management group and serves on the firm’s Management Committee. Jana brings more than 27 years of institutional and private real estate experience to Newport Capital Partners. Over the course of her career, Jana has managed more than $2.8 billion in assets.

Prior to joining the Firm, Jana was as a full time consultant for Harvard University Foundation’s $3.0 billion real estate portfolio and was a Founder and Principal for Sight on Site, providing asset management services for such clients as Syndicated Equities, Blue Vista, Grubb & Ellis, and the State of Illinois. Hugh Connolly is a Managing Director, heading up Newport Capital Partners’ Construction Management group. Hugh has more than 21 years of private real estate experience, primarily in construction, redevelopment and urban land use.

Prior to joining the firm, Hugh was Director of Development at Misericordia where he was responsible for all facets of an exceptionally complicated mixed-use redevelopment involving urban planning, zoning, infrastructure improvements and construction and, oversaw the redevelopment of specialized facilities and residential units.   email:  hugh@newportcapitalptrs.com

Sean Devine is a Director responsible for acquisitions at Newport Capital Partners.  Sean brings more than 8 years of institutional real estate experience.

Prior to joining the firm, Sean was with American Realty Advisors and RREEF focused on acquisitions.  Over his tenure he has been involved with inexces of $700 million in transactions focusing on retail, industrial and multifamily properties. Prior to RREEF, Sean also held posistions with a family real estate company, CenterPoint Properties Trust and Cohen Financial, primarily in acqusistions, asset management and debt capital markets.   email:  sean@newportcapitalptrs.com

Newport Capital Partners’ Investment Committee includes three independent members with industry specific expertise. The firm’s Independent Investment Committee Members provide investor governance on all major investment decisions.
